Endeavor Health and The University of Chicago invites applications and nominations for its next Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery.
The University of Chicago's Department of Surgery, Section of Cardiac Surgery, seeks an exceptional cardiovascular surgeon to serve as Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery for Endeavor Health and lead the Endeavor Health Cardiovascular Institute (CVI). This is a rare opportunity to build and direct a cardiovascular surgery program at a top health system in Illinois while holding an academic rank at UChicago Medicine, one of the nation's most prestigious medical institutions.
The Chief will lead the clinical, academic, and strategic growth of a high-performing surgical division across six Endeavor Health hospitals in the north suburbs of Chicago—Glenbrook Hospital (primary CVI hub/site), Skokie Hospital, Evanston Hospital, Swedish Hospital, Highland Park Hospital, and Northwest Community Hospital. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, compassionate, strategic leader who will be responsible for developing and executing a unified vision for the region’s premier cardiovascular surgery program, serving as the lead surgical voice in maintaining a strong working relationship between UChicago Medicine and Endeavor Health.
The new leader will provide world-class care combined with a seamless patient experience – every patient every time. Maintaining superior clinical outcomes at the Glenbrook CVI hub, refining appropriate transfer protocols, and standardizing protocols to ensure the highest quality, equitable care for the community served by Endeavor Health and UChicago Medicine, as mission critical. The Chief will oversee surgical quality, program development, and collaborative integration with structural heart, advanced heart failure, electrophysiology, and imaging teams across the system and is responsible for creating a unified surgical program that addresses the needs of all constituent hospitals.
The Chief will be a clinically active surgeon, with clinical responsibilities that will ideally include performing high-complexity cases (e.g., multi-valve, re-operations, valve/CABG, aortic surgery) as well as providing surgical support for structural heart (e.g., TAVR, mitral clip), electrophysiology (e.g., lead extraction), and advanced heart failure. The Chief will champion quality reporting through STS and INTERMACS databases while maintaining benchmark performance metrics.
The Chief will enjoy the fertile teaching and research environments that UChicago Medicine and Endeavor Health offer. In this highly visible role, they will also participate in philanthropic efforts to supplement system funding of education, research and innovation. From an academic leadership perspective, the Chief will be Site Director for the Cardiovascular Surgery Fellowship, participate in medical student and resident education, and foster academic growth through peer-reviewed publications and presentations. From a research and innovation perspective, the Chief will partner with Endeavor Health Research Institute leadership to direct research strategy and secure external funding. They will support faculty clinical research and publications while ensuring compliance with institutional review boards; they will evaluate the implementation of surgical innovations such as minimally invasive or robotic valve and arrhythmia surgery aligned with system capabilities. The opportunities to collaborate closely with University of Chicago Surgery and Endeavor Health to advance joint education, academic, research and philanthropic initiatives have never been more promising.
