POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The School of Pharmacy at Pacific University Oregon invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the pharmaceutical sciences with a focus on pharmaceutics in the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum. The University values primacy in teaching with an increasing focus on research. The approximated allocation of effort is 60% teaching, 30% research, 10% service. The ideal candidate has teaching experience in pharmaceutics and experiences in other areas of pharmacy and pharmacy education, such as engagement in Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MSPS) research programs. The faculty member will be involved in basic science or translational research and is expected to involve and mentor PharmD, PharmD/MSPS, MSPS, and undergraduate students in research. In addition, the faculty member is expected to seek external funding and the potential to collaborate with other faculty members of the School of Pharmacy in scholarship is an advantage. The faculty member will be actively engaged in the service mission of Pacific University and serve on various committees within the School of Pharmacy, College of Health Profession, and the University. The faculty member will report to the Associate Dean for Pharmaceutical Sciences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Prior experience in these general areas will receive highest consideration:

  • Coordinate didactic pharmaceutics course and develop, maintain, and administer student-centered curricular material in pharmaceutics
  • Assess teaching, with emphasis on competencies and outcomes, in order to provide continual improvement in student and faculty performances and in student retention for a diverse population
  • Contribute to teaching in Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences programs (MSPS: joint PharmD/MSPS and standalone MSPS degree)
  • Provide mentoring and advising to Pharmacy and MS students throughout the didactic curriculum and regarding research
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an active discovery research program that involves PharmD, PharmD/MSPS, MSPS, and/or undergraduate students
  • Actively seek extramural funding
  • Participate in various committees in the School, College and University, and the profession
  • Commit to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and multicultural environment and interpersonal connections


Requirements

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND BEHAVIORS:

  • PhD in biomedical or pharmaceutical sciences, ideally related to pharmaceutics
  • At least one-year of postdoctoral training or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Collaborate with diverse faculty, staff, administrators, and students
  • Evidence of prior teaching experience
  • Publication history
  • Candidates must be highly motivated to excel in teaching, scholarship, and service

PREFERRED CRITERIA

  • Prior academic experience in pharmacy education
  • Successful external grant/funding history
  • Evidence of graduate and/or undergraduate teaching experience

WORKING CONDITIONS: Office environment in LEED Gold certified building.  Teaching schedules will be arranged to meet the needs of the program.
